Chief Minister of Balochistan, Mir Sarfraz Bugti, has announced that the government of Balochistan is set to establish off-grid stations under the development budget to provide electricity to areas where traditional grid stations are unavailable. This initiative aims to offer basic facilities to remote and electricity-deprived regions. The establishment of these off-grid stations will begin in areas such as Nokundi, Buleda, Sui, Sherani, and Mashkail, where electricity supply has long been a major challenge.
The Balochistan government is also working on alternative energy projects to meet the province’s power needs. According to the Chief Minister, under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), home solar systems have been provided with the support of the Chinese government. Their fair distribution and cost-effective installation have been ensured, making them particularly beneficial for households that are not connected to the conventional power grid.
Furthermore, a Rs. 50 billion agricultural solarization project is in progress to fulfill the energy requirements of the agriculture sector. Under this initiative, solar systems are being installed to support farmers. However, the Chief Minister highlighted the poor performance of the Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO) as a major hurdle in implementing the project. He warned that if delays persist, the government will proceed with the installation of solar systems in collaboration with farmers.
The Balochistan government has emphasized the swift completion of public welfare projects and reiterated its commitment to the transparent distribution of solar systems. On this occasion, the Chief Minister also appreciated the efforts of the Chinese government and the Chairman of the Friends of China Forum, Baizid Khan Kasi, for their contributions to improving the energy sector in Balochistan.
