Green Bus Service Suspended in Quetta, Citizens Face Commuting Challenges

Residents of Quetta have been left struggling with daily transportation after the sudden suspension of the Green Bus Service for over a week. The Balochistan government has yet to provide an official explanation for the abrupt halt, which has led to growing concern and frustration among the public.

The Green Bus Service had been operating for over a year, providing affordable, clean, and safe transportation, especially for the middle- and lower-income segments of the population. Office workers, students, and laborers heavily relied on this service. With its discontinuation, many are now forced to use expensive alternatives like rickshaws and taxis, placing a significant financial burden on already strained households.

Local residents suspect that security concerns might be behind the decision, but the government’s silence has only deepened uncertainty. Abid Khan, a garment factory worker, shared, “This bus was my only affordable way to get to work on time. Now, I’m spending half my salary just on transport.” Similarly, Gul Bano, a schoolteacher, said, “I had been using this bus for a year. It was safe, cheap, and punctual. Now I have to walk long distances.” Saeed Ahmad, a university student, expressed his frustration, stating, “I can’t afford daily rickshaw fares. The Green Bus was a lifeline for students like me.”

The suspension of the service has raised serious questions about the government’s priorities. Citizens now hope that the authorities will act swiftly to restore the bus service and ease their daily commuting hardships.
