Positive Use of Artificial Intelligence in Balochistan: A Major Step Towards Transparent Governance and Public Welfare

Chief Minister of Balochistan, Mir Sarfraz Bugti, emphasized the urgent need to prevent the misuse of artificial intelligence and to harness its positive aspects. He was addressing a consultative meeting of the Information Technology Department, where detailed discussions were held on utilizing modern technology to ensure transparency in governance, financial management, and educational scholarships in Balochistan. He stated that modern IT technologies can play a vital role in improving governance and the delivery of public services. The Chief Minister added that steering Balochistan towards digital governance is among the government’s top priorities, which can help achieve transparency, merit, and public welfare.

During the meeting, a proposal was presented to assess the cognitive abilities of youth receiving scholarships under the Balochistan Education Endowment Fund (BEEF) using AI-based analysis. Officials explained that with the help of AI, individual profiling of students and accurate identification of their unique capabilities would be possible, allowing for better educational and career opportunities. The meeting also discussed aligning the financial affairs of the Finance Department and development projects with modern IT technologies to reduce resource wastage and enhance performance.

Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti instructed the Chief Secretary and the Secretary of Finance to devise practical plans for improving governance through the positive use of artificial intelligence. He expressed his commitment to ensuring effective initiatives for the guidance, development, and overall prosperity of youth using modern IT tools and AI. The meeting was attended by Balochistan Chief Secretary Shakeel Qadir Khan, Principal Secretary Babar Khan, IT Secretary Ayaz Khan Mandokhail, Finance Secretary Imran Zarkoon, BEEF CEO Zakaria Khan Noorzai, and AI expert Irfan Malik.
