State-Targeted Narrative Exposed Under the Guise of “Missing Persons” in Balochistan

Once again, a long-standing truth about Balochistan has been exposed. The individual whom Mehrang Baloch had declared “missing” on November 3, 2023, and whose case was used to run an intense campaign against the state, has now been revealed as an armed member of a proscribed terrorist organization. On July 10, 2025, he was killed in an armed clash with security forces. The banned group BLA (Balochistan Liberation Army) itself confirmed his death, proving that he was not a missing innocent citizen, but a militant who had taken up arms against the state.

Using his alleged disappearance as a pretext, protests were held, roads were blocked, and international efforts were made to defame Pakistan. However, this incident has once again clarified that the issue in Balochistan is not of missing persons, but of exploiting the “missing person” narrative to systematically target and malign state institutions.

This is not the first time a so-called missing person has been found to have direct links with terrorist outfits. Many such individuals disappear into the mountains to join armed militancy, while their families stage protests portraying them as victims. At the same time, these militants are involved in the cold-blooded killings of innocent civilians, laborers, and travelers based on ethnicity and identity — all while trying to pass themselves off as oppressed.

It is high time the people of Pakistan recognize these facts and refrain from falling for narratives crafted by anti-state elements and their sympathizers. The state and its institutions are fulfilling their responsibilities, and it is imperative that the public supports them in order to ensure lasting peace in Balochistan.
