Chief Minister Balochistan, Mir Sarfraz Bugti, has formally inaugurated the province-wide anti-polio campaign in Quetta. Under this campaign, a target has been set to administer polio drops to more than 2.6 million children across Balochistan, with the aim of completely eliminating this dangerous disease from the province.
A total of 11,000 teams are taking part in the campaign, including 822 fixed and 474 transit teams, which will provide services in urban areas, rural regions, and at transit points. The government has further strengthened security and administrative arrangements to ensure uninterrupted access to every child.
The Chief Minister stated that no polio case has been reported in Balochistan over the past 15 months, which marks a significant achievement. Currently, poliovirus has been detected in environmental samples from only two areas out of the province’s 23 districts, while 93 percent of areas have already been cleared of the virus. Organized and coordinated efforts are ongoing to eliminate the virus from the remaining 7 percent of areas.
Mir Sarfraz Bugti added that notable successes were achieved in 2025 regarding polio eradication, and the current year is extremely important for the complete elimination of the virus at the environmental level. He reaffirmed that, as in previous years, an effective and well-organized campaign will be carried out in 2026 to ensure every child is reached.
The Chief Minister urged parents to fully cooperate with the polio campaign, emphasizing that young children can be affected by the virus at any time and that polio can cause permanent disability. He stressed that protecting children’s health is a shared responsibility, and if even one child is missed during the campaign, all children could be put at risk.
