High-Level Workshop Held for the Promotion of Agricultural Business in Balochistan

A high-level consultative workshop was held in Quetta to develop a comprehensive roadmap for the promotion of agricultural business in Balochistan. The workshop was organized with financial support from the European Union and under the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Sector Support Program of GIZ. Its primary objective was to establish a Center of Excellence for agribusiness at the Lasbela University of Agriculture, Water and Marine Sciences (LUAWMS). The event was attended by Balochistan Governor Sheikh Jaffar Mandokhail, vice-chancellors of various universities, officials from the Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, Food, and Industries Departments, representatives from NAVTTC, B-TEVTA, Benazir Income Support Program, GIZ, civil society members, and agricultural experts.

Participants discussed the development of agricultural business in Balochistan, the adoption of modern trends, increased production, food security, and job creation. The speakers appreciated the European Union’s commitment to investing in Balochistan’s agribusiness sector and commended the efforts of the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC). The workshop highlighted the importance of this initiative in driving economic development, creating job opportunities, and reducing poverty in the province. Experts emphasized that promoting agribusiness in Balochistan could significantly transform the region’s economy and ensure food security.

The establishment of the Center of Excellence at LUAWMS was hailed as a milestone, expected to accelerate the introduction of modern reforms in the agricultural sector. Such initiatives will pave the way for sustainable development, improved value chains, and the overall growth of the agribusiness sector, which remains largely untapped in Balochistan. At the conclusion of the workshop, all stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to collaborative efforts for the advancement of agricultural business in the province. The speakers emphasized that the roadmap developed through this consultation would guide future investments and interventions, fostering a sustainable and inclusive agribusiness environment in Balochistan. The initiative by the European Union, GIZ, and NAVTTC reflects a joint effort to unlock Balochistan’s agribusiness potential and ensure economic prosperity and food security for its people.
