Balochistan Assembly Approves Tax on Agricultural Income

The Balochistan Assembly has recently passed a bill to levy taxes on agricultural income, whereby different tax rates are applied to different income thresholds. According to this law, no tax will be levied if the farmer’s annual agricultural income is less than six lakh rupees. A 15% tax will be levied on incomes ranging from six lakh to twelve lakh rupees. Incomes ranging between twelve lakh rupees to sixteen lakh rupees would be imposed by a fixed tax of 90,000 rupees; for incomes falling within the brackets between sixteen lakh to three lakh twenty thousand rupees, it will be applied at 170,000 rupees. For incomes ranging from three lakh twenty thousand to five lakh sixty thousand rupees, there will be a tax of 650,000 rupees, and for incomes above five lakh sixty thousand rupees, 40% tax will be charged.

In addition, the Balochistan Assembly passed an unanimous resolution that strongly condemned the Manghochar attack, in which 18 security personnel were martyred. The Chief Minister of Balochistan outright condemned the attack and said that the terrorists would be dealt with, and the people of Balochistan stand with the security forces and will thwart the malicious intentions of the enemies.

The Chief Minister said the security situation in Balochistan is worrisome, and for peace to be achieved, there is a need for dialogue with all relevant stakeholders. The terrorists will not be allowed to succeed in their extreme methods, he added.
