Provincial Health Minister Bakht Muhammad Kakar has stated that effective measures are being taken in Balochistan to prevent thalassemia and other life-threatening diseases, with strict implementation of the existing laws being ensured. He expressed these views while addressing an awareness event organized by the Balochistan Blood Transfusion Authority on the occasion of World Thalassemia Day. He highlighted that in a vast province like Balochistan, the government is focused on addressing health-related issues through sustainable solutions.
The Health Minister further said that screening tests will be promoted for the effective prevention of thalassemia to ensure future protection from the disease. He emphasized that all relevant institutions are actively working to enforce the law and create public awareness. He also announced the formation of an advisory committee comprising health experts to guide policy-making and strategic decisions in the healthcare sector.
Bakht Muhammad Kakar appealed to religious scholars to play their role in raising awareness about thalassemia and other dangerous diseases through their sermons, to help foster a preventive mindset in society. The event was also addressed by Health Secretary Mujeeb Panezai, Chief Technical Expert of the Balochistan Blood Transfusion Authority Dr. Nadeem Samad, Dr. Afzal Zarkoon, Dr. Shafiq Khoso, Aslam Nasir, and other speakers, who highlighted the joint responsibility of the government and the community in combating thalassemia.
