The Government of Balochistan has taken a revolutionary step to provide modern, comfortable, and accessible travel facilities for the public by deciding to launch the “People’s Train” service in collaboration with Pakistan Railways. The decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Balochistan, Mir Sarfraz Bugti. The meeting was attended by Advisor for Sports and Youth Affairs Meena Majid Baloch, Parliamentary Secretary for Transport Mir Liaquat Ali Lehri, Chief Secretary Balochistan Shakeel Qadir Khan, and other senior officials.
Initially, the train service will operate between the suburban areas of Saryab and Kuchlak in Quetta. The primary aim of the service is to offer the public safe, affordable, and quality transportation. Under this project, five existing railway stations will be upgraded, while two new stations will be constructed. The railway track will also be modernized to enhance train speed and safety. Pakistan Railways and the Balochistan Transport Department have been instructed to make the project operational as soon as possible.
Speaking during the meeting, Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti said that the People’s Train service will greatly ease daily commuting for residents of Quetta and surrounding areas, offering time-saving and comfortable transportation. He described the project as a realization of the dream of “public convenience, affordable transport, and a modern travel system.” He emphasized that the upgraded stations will provide a secure and dignified travel environment for passengers.
The Chief Minister further stated that the Balochistan Government is introducing sustainable and public-friendly initiatives in the transport sector, and the People’s Train service marks the first step toward progress. He added that more key projects will follow soon. The meeting also decided to activate the Pakistan Railways Football Ground, which will be managed by the Balochistan Sports Department and equipped with essential facilities to promote sports activities.
