Alleged Corruption in Medicine Procurement: Former Population Department Officer Arrested in Quetta

The Anti-Corruption Establishment has arrested Faiz Akhtar, the former Director of Administration at the Population Welfare Department in Quetta, on charges of alleged corruption. This arrest marks a significant move in uncovering financial irregularities within the department.

According to sources, an FIR (No. 10/Q/2024) was registered against Faiz Akhtar, along with Muhammad Ayaz, the Executive Director of DigiTech Solutions, and others. The case stems from a 2022 transaction in which the Population Welfare Department made an advance payment of PKR 5,197,483 to DigiTech Solutions for the procurement of general medicines. However, the transaction later came under scrutiny for potential fraud.

Investigations have revealed that Faiz Akhtar allegedly colluded with DigiTech Solutions for personal financial gains, with evidence pointing to corrupt practices. Furthermore, Anti-Corruption officials have indicated that further inquiry may uncover additional financial irregularities and new dimensions of potential corruption, suggesting that more individuals could be implicated in the scheme.

The Anti-Corruption Establishment is taking this case seriously and is committed to ensuring transparency through a thorough investigation. This case highlights ongoing efforts to combat corruption within government departments and serves as a stern warning to those involved in fraudulent activities. Authorities expect that further arrests may follow as investigations progress, and strict legal action will be taken against all those found guilty of corruption.
