Transparency and Reforms in SB Teacher Recruitment in Balochistan – A Significant Development

The recruitment process of SB teachers in Balochistan has long been marred by controversies and corruption. In the past, serious irregularities emerged, where merit was ignored, and jobs were allegedly sold for hefty bribes. Recognizing this issue, Chief Minister Balochistan, Mir Sarfraz Bugti, took immediate action upon assuming office to address these challenges and improve the education system while ensuring deserving candidates receive their due rights.

Investigations revealed massive corruption in teacher recruitments during the previous government’s tenure. Reports suggested that teaching positions were sold for amounts ranging from one to two million rupees. Additionally, incidents of cheating during exams and leaked question papers via mobile phones further exposed weaknesses in the system, indicating a lack of transparency and accountability.

In response, Chief Minister Balochistan ordered the formation of an inquiry committee, which conducted raids across various districts, leading to the arrest of multiple individuals involved in malpractice. Anti-corruption agencies also carried out operations in SBK University, uncovering cases of fake domiciles and candidates who had passed exams through illegal means. These measures aimed to bring transparency to the recruitment process and hold corrupt individuals accountable, ensuring that such malpractices do not occur in the future.

Upon taking office, CM Bugti directed the university administration to announce the recruitment results promptly so that successful candidates could be deployed to educational institutions without delay. Despite certain delaying tactics, government pressure ensured the timely release of results. To further ensure transparency, district review committees were established in every district to thoroughly verify candidates’ credentials, documents, and domiciles, preventing unqualified individuals from securing positions and ensuring that only deserving candidates are appointed.

As part of these reforms, it was decided that all teachers would be hired on a contract basis. This policy aimed to ensure that only those who actively perform their teaching duties and maintain regular attendance in schools receive salaries. This step was taken to eliminate ghost employees and fraudulent recruitments, promoting quality education and ensuring the presence of committed teachers in Balochistan’s educational institutions.

Despite these reforms, some candidates continue to protest, arguing that recruitment results in certain districts have not been released on time, leaving many in uncertainty regarding their employment status. In response, the Chief Secretary of Balochistan has repeatedly intervened, instructing authorities to expedite the process and issue appointment orders to successful candidates without further delays.

From the outset, Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has taken firm steps to ensure transparency in teacher recruitments and introduce a merit-based system. The government’s primary objective is to improve Balochistan’s education sector and provide qualified and competent teachers for the province’s students. While some challenges persist in certain districts, the government remains committed to completing the recruitment process and safeguarding the rights of all eligible candidates. With these reforms, it is hoped that future recruitment processes will be more transparent, ensuring the eradication of corruption and fostering a fair and credible education system in Balochistan.
