Balochistan Cabinet Meeting: Key Decisions on Security, Economy, and Governance

A crucial meeting of the Balochistan Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, was held at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat. The meeting strongly condemned the recent terrorist incidents, particularly the attacks on the Jaffer Express and in Nushki. A firm stance was taken against these attacks, and the timely and effective actions of security forces were highly appreciated for preventing significant damage in the province. The cabinet paid tribute to the martyrs, prayed for their forgiveness, and reaffirmed its commitment to taking decisive action against those attempting to disrupt peace, with the full support of the public.

A major decision was made to exempt the Chief Minister Youth Skills Development Program from Balochistan Sales Tax, aiming to provide more employment opportunities for young people in the province. Additionally, based on recommendations from a special committee, approval was granted to sell stored wheat purchased in previous years in the open market before it deteriorates due to seasonal conditions.

To promote the economic stability of women in Balochistan, the cabinet approved the Balochistan Women Economic Empowerment Endowment Fund Utilization Policy 2024. Under this policy, interest-free loans will be provided to women to support their financial independence. Furthermore, amendments were approved to the law for the protection of women from workplace harassment to ensure a safer and more conducive work environment for them.

The cabinet also approved the renaming of Goli Mar Chowk and Kachra Road based on recommendations from the Local Government Department. These will now be known as Shaheed Zakir Baloch Chowk and S.R. Ponigar Road, respectively. Additionally, it was agreed that the recruitment process for contract-based positions in the Education Department should be completed as soon as possible. These recruitments will initially be for 18 months, with possible extensions based on performance and attendance.

Addressing the meeting, Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti stated that both the Balochistan cabinet and the people have rejected terrorism, emphasizing the value of the sacrifices made by security forces. He highlighted that meritocracy and good governance are essential for resolving public issues and assured that the government would uphold transparency to address the concerns of young people by providing them with dignified employment opportunities. He reiterated that education and healthcare are top priorities for the provincial government and that ongoing reforms in these sectors will continue. The Chief Minister also hinted at contract-based recruitments to improve performance in these fields.

He directed that the implementation and progress of decisions made in previous cabinet meetings should be reviewed at the beginning of future sessions to ensure effective governance. The meeting concluded with a commitment that all decisions taken would contribute positively to the development, stability, and prosperity of the people of Balochistan.
