Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has said that while peaceful protest is a constitutional right of every citizen, the authority to exercise the “right to assemble” lies with the government under the constitution, and everyone must acknowledge this legal framework. He expressed these views during a meeting held on Monday with Nawabzada Mir Israrullah Zehri and Sardar Kamal Khan Bangulzai at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Quetta.
The meeting included a detailed discussion on the ongoing protest by the Balochistan National Party (Mengal), the overall political situation in the province, and the existing deadlock. The Chief Minister briefed both leaders on the political and administrative efforts made by the government in response to the protests. He stated that three rounds of dialogue have been held with Sardar Akhtar Mengal, during which the government accepted one out of the three demands presented.
Mir Sarfraz Bugti emphasized that the government made sincere efforts to resolve the issue politically, but the lack of a positive response from the other side has led to a continued deadlock. He said that the state institutions and the government believe in democratic processes, but no one will be allowed to take the law into their own hands or disrupt public life. He expressed hope that political leadership would play a constructive role in resolving the matter through mutual understanding, so that peace, development, and stability in Balochistan remain unaffected.
