Important Meeting on Quetta Development Project Held Under Chairmanship of Balochistan CM, Key Traffic Reforms and Other Decisions Taken

An important meeting regarding the Quetta Development Project was held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Balochistan, Mir Sarfraz Bugti. The meeting focused on traffic management, urban development, cleanliness, education, and other civic matters in the provincial capital. It was decided to declare the central city area as “Downtown” and ban rickshaws in that zone. Instead, a limited number of electric cars will be introduced to improve traffic flow and ensure a cleaner environment.

The Chief Minister issued strict directives to curb wall chalking in the city. He ordered legal notices to be sent to political parties and private companies involved in this illegal practice. He emphasized that no leniency should be shown, even to ruling parties, and strict action must be taken against all violators without discrimination. Additionally, he instructed that all flex banners and promotional materials should be removed immediately after any political rally or activity.

To improve the education sector, it was decided that inactive government schools will be reactivated under the Balochistan Education Endowment Fund. The Chief Minister also directed the Forest Department to present a comprehensive plan for the promotion of tree plantation across the region.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister expressed displeasure over delays in the summary for the restructuring of the Municipal Corporation (KMC) and demanded an explanation from the Secretary Local Government. He made it clear that any delay or negligence in public welfare projects is unacceptable.

Commissioner Quetta Division, Hamza Shafqaat, briefed the meeting on the ongoing campaign against professional beggars in the city. He reported that over 1,500 beggars were taken into custody and shifted to rehabilitation centers in the past week. He also highlighted the issue of stray cattle such as bulls and cows roaming on city roads, causing traffic disruptions and public inconvenience. In response, the metropolitan staff had captured seven such animals in the last seven days and handed them over to welfare organizations.

The decisions taken in the meeting aim to make Quetta a cleaner, more organized, and citizen-friendly city by establishing a modern and sustainable urban system.
