Chief Minister of Balochistan, Mir Sarfraz Bugti, has stated that while terrorists are recruiting Balochistan’s youth for suicide attacks, his government is working to provide them opportunities for education at world-renowned institutions such as Harvard and Oxford. He emphasized that Balochistan is currently engaged in a war against terrorism and expressed a desire to resolve all issues through dialogue. However, he regretted that some elements prefer to communicate through violence rather than peaceful discussion, and such actions will be responded to accordingly.
He made these remarks while speaking to the media in Jacobabad after offering condolences to Member of the National Assembly and Chief Whip of the Pakistan People’s Party, Mir Ejaz Hussain Jakhrani, on the passing of his mother. CM Bugti stressed that terrorists do not belong to any particular nation or tribe — they are simply terrorists — and must be dealt with firmly.
Sarfraz Bugti further stated that the provincial government is actively engaging the youth in academic activities by encouraging them towards higher education and enrolling them in colleges and universities. Through the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Scholarship, Balochistan’s students will have access to some of the best educational institutions across the globe. He highlighted that their mission is to provide a bright and productive future for the youth, which clearly differentiates them from the ideology of extremists.
Addressing the issue of missing persons, CM Bugti described it as a complex and controversial matter. He noted that it is often unclear whether individuals have been forcibly disappeared or have gone missing by choice, and even the exact numbers remain disputed. Nevertheless, the Balochistan Assembly has passed special legislation to prevent such allegations against the state and its institutions in the future.
Speaking about Iran, the Chief Minister remarked that it is a brotherly Islamic country and the nation stands in solidarity with it. Since Balochistan shares a border with Iran, the provincial government has already developed contingency plans, including provisions for food and other necessities, to deal with any potential crisis in the border region.
He strongly condemned the attack on the Jaffar Express in Jacobabad, noting that this was the first such incident in the border area, and said it raises serious concerns. He assured that the government is committed to protecting the lives and property of citizens and is taking all possible steps to improve the security situation in Balochistan.
