To enhance water resource management and promote agricultural growth, the government of Balochistan has decided to accelerate work on the Nollang Dam project. A high-level meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, was held to review progress and receive a detailed briefing on the project.
Officials informed the meeting that the Nollang Dam project will cost Rs. 2.15 billion and is being implemented with the cooperation of the Asian Development Bank. Once completed, the project will irrigate 54,000 acres of land and generate 4.8 megawatts of electricity, benefiting both the agriculture and energy sectors of the province.
Addressing the meeting, Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti said that water projects are vital for the agricultural future of Balochistan. He emphasized that modern strategies are being adopted to ensure efficient water use and storage, minimizing wastage and increasing productivity.
He added that projects like the Nollang Dam symbolize the prosperity of farmers, the creation of new employment opportunities, and the strengthening of the provincial economy. These initiatives, he said, will boost agricultural activities and revitalize rural livelihoods.
The Chief Minister reaffirmed the government’s focus on increasing usable water resources, improving agricultural productivity, and promoting environmental balance to ensure sustainable development for the people of Balochistan.
The meeting was attended by Provincial Minister Nawabzada Mir Tariq Khan Magsi, Chief Secretary Shakil Qadir Khan, Additional Chief Secretary (Planning and Development) Zahid Saleem, Secretary Irrigation Saleem ur Rehman Baloch, and other senior officials.
